How to Register and Take Exams with SMOWL Proctoring Software
Registration
- Before the start of the Exam, first register on the SMOWL platform.
- Access the SMOWL registration link in the Virtual Assessment System (VAS) portal.
- Register at least 72 hours before exams start.

SMOWL works in the main browsers on the market, for the best user experience while monitoring an online activity the recommend using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
SMOWL does not work with Safari,
we recommend using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
Choose to log in from either of the two login buttons and enter email address and password when prompted.
Step 1: Select the “my courses” button then click preferred exam.
STEP 2: Click to open CAT or Final Exams
NB: In VAS, select "my courses" then click your exam. This takes you to the SMOWL registration page.
STEP 3: Enter your details - Full Name and your Amref (mcampus) email address
STEP 4: Allow camera access to capture your image.
It's important to allow the SMOWL system to access your webcam to capture images.
STEP 5: Download and install the SMOWL software.
Ensure your system meets the requirements:
- Windows 10 and 11 /MacOS 10.15+
- Stable internet connection
Ø Check on the downloads file and install it.
STEP 6: Complete registration.
